It is normal for lowboy trailer decks to wear down over time. Constant heavy loads, rough cargo handling, and long exposure to wind and rain always leave different kinds of damage, mainly including surface scratches, dents, metal cracks and rust spots. If these small problems are left unfixed, they will gradually worsen, affect the trailer's load-bearing performance, and even cause safety risks during transportation.
Light surface damage is not hard to repair. For simple scratches and shallow dents, clean the target area first. Clear away all dirt, debris and loose rust with a wire brush or water washer, and make sure the deck surface is fully dry. Small dents can be flattened with basic hydraulic tools, and a little sanding will make the rough area smooth again for daily use.
Cracks and holes require more careful handling. Before welding, clean up dirt inside the cracks to guarantee a firm weld effect. Minor cracks can be fixed with steel filling welding. For large holes or badly broken deck sections, cut off the damaged metal part and install a new steel plate of matching thickness, polishing the joints to keep the deck flat.
Rust treatment matters the most for long-term use. Completely polish off rusted layers rather than simply painting over them. Coat the repaired area with anti-rust primer and wear-resistant topcoat. Any seriously corroded and thinned plates should be replaced directly. After all repairs, check the deck flatness. Simple daily maintenance can effectively avoid repeated damage.
