High-pressure tank trailers haul hazardous and non-hazardous materials at really high pressures-usually 100 to 10,000 psi. You have to keep that pressure in check to stay safe, keep your equipment from breaking, and make sure you're following industry rules. You can't do without a pressure relief valve (PRV)-it lets out extra pressure on its own once it hits a set limit, using a spring or weight to open and close when it needs to. PRVs stop tanks from breaking and leaking dangerous stuff, keep trailers running right, and help operators follow DOT, ISO, and ADR standards. If you don't take care of PRVs, or if they break-from clogs, leaks, or bad calibration-you could end up with tank ruptures, fires, spills, and lost time.
Operators need to take care of PRVs the right way: check for damage or clogs before each trip, have trained technicians calibrate them on a regular basis, clear out any debris, keep simple maintenance records, and swap out old or damaged valves right away. PRVs are your last safety measure for tank trailer operations. Using good quality PRVs, following maintenance steps, and meeting industry rules isn't just legal-it's common sense. It cuts down on risks and keeps logistics operations safe.
